Magnesium Information: Current Status and Future of the Magnesium Alloy Industry
Jiang Bin, deputy director of China National Magnesium Alloy Materials Engineering Technology Research Center, said at the Salt Lake Resources Comprehensive Utilization Forum held on June 27 that 2016 is the turning point of China's magnesium industry, and domestic consumption exceeded exports for the first time, indicating that the domestic consumer market has achieved Rapid growth. According to statistics, as of the end of 2017, China's raw magnesium production has reached 1.02 million tons, and the original magnesium production capacity continues to grow.

China is rich in magnesium resources. Among them, more than 20 billion tons of dolomite magnesium ore have been discovered, more than 3 billion tons of magnesite, and more than 4 billion tons of magnesium chloride in salt lakes. It can be mined for more than a thousand years and accounts for the world's magnesium resources. More than 70%. At present, the total reserves of magnesium chloride contained in the Qaidam Basin are 4.281 billion tons, and the reserves account for 99% of the total magnesium salt in the salt lakes in the country, ranking first in the country.
According to the statistics of the Magnesium Branch of China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, there are 37 magnesium smelting enterprises with a production capacity of more than 10 million tons in 2016. The total output is 749,300 tons, an increase of 20.43% year-on-year; 9 enterprises with an annual output of more than 30,000 tons. The total output was 325,500 tons, an increase of 92.72% year-on-year. China's raw magnesium production capacity, production and domestic consumption have increased significantly.
The International Magnesium Association has done a lot of work in more than a dozen major countries around the world, and the relevant results have been published on the website of the International Magnesium Association. China's Beijing University of Technology and other units have also done a lot of research shows that magnesium alloy as a green metal material is very potential for energy conservation and environmental protection.
At present, the global magnesium alloy production and consumption have exceeded 400,000 tons, and the production and consumption of magnesium alloys in China have also achieved substantial growth. The automotive industry is the largest consumer of magnesium alloys. In 2017, the world's automobile production was about 90 million (about 29 million in China), and the application potential of magnesium alloys in automobiles is still very large. At the same time, the mileage of China's railways reached 120,000 kilometers in 2017, of which the high-speed rail mileage exceeded 22,000 kilometers. The demand for magnesium alloy lightweight parts is also huge.
The increase in energy conservation and emission reduction pressures, the improvement of national security levels and the improvement of quality of life requirements will provide rapidly increasing market demand for the future development of the magnesium industry. Among them, the demand for magnesium alloy parts for new energy vehicles will increase sharply in recent years, and the increase in the scale of the magnesium salt industry will provide guarantee for the expansion of the magnesium alloy product market and the improvement of the original magnesium quality.
